buying the right size...

the psychology of clothes sizing is a minefield...a woman can be a size ten in one shop...but a size fourteen in another...so why do we shoe-horn ourselves into a twelve when we know the fourteen fits so much better?

ladies...if you take anything from this post...it is this...buy clothes that fit...if the number that is attached to that garment really bothers you...you can always cut it out...it is only a label...

instead of looking for clothes you fit into...find clothes that fit you...no one looks good in clothes that don't fit...no matter how expensive or well made...even a size ten catwalk model squeezed into a size eight sample dress will bulge like a gladstone bag...

never be afraid to take clothes in...let them out...lengthen sleeves or shorten hems...the cornerstone of style is well-fitting clothes...it is a myth that a model figure will fit into any dress...turn her around and her back is full of pins...the same is true of actresses...weeks of costume fittings make that dress look that good...

never, ever buy clothes you intend to slim into...or...oh the possibility of it...gain weight to fill...

please please buy the right size...shop for as long as it takes to find clothes that really fit you and have them altered if they don't...

it cannot be emphasized enough...buy.the.right.size!!

  1. Shoe-horn ourselves, I love it! Paints the perfect image. So many women buy clothes that don't fit and it's just as bad to be squished into something like a little sausage as it is to be wearing something too loose. Clothes that are too big make us look big. And after all, don't we all want to achieve the opposite effect?

  2. so true stacy! whether the clothes are too big...or too tight...both make a person look bigger than they actually are...
